The Trigger

The lack of post by this point today means 1 thing: I don’t feel well.

It’s no longer the cold at this point but a headache on the edge of a migraine.  I’ve been pushing through it all day, pretending it wasn’t there in hopes that with the coffee, water and pain medications it would eventually excuse itself.

Not so much.

I know today is Wednesday which means I should be posting about something food related and while I have a list of things I want to talk about, we’re going to make a slight change of plans and go with the theme of today: my headache.

I’m not someone who has ever really been able to determine the trigger for my headaches or migraines but I think I did figure out for today, at least.  Last night’s red wine.

Now, before all of you get all crazy and start telling me I’m hung over, let me clear the air.  I’m not.  I had less than a glass of wine last night because I felt the headache coming on and completely lost interest in my wine so I stopped sipping.  I was also super tired but the headache just kept getting worse.

I left my friend’s around 12:30, walked home (with someone!), took ibuprofen and went to bed.  When I woke up around 6 or 7 this morning (on my own!), I realized it was still just as bad, if not worse, popped more and went back to sleep.  I woke up again around 9:45, made myself a pot of coffee and some breakfast.  No luck, it was still there.

After dealing with some computer issues (I think I’ll be using my MacBook Air this week with the way my Pro is acting), I left for the gym.  I had an amazing workout, took a shower, had a smoothie and left again to run some errands.  But here I am, hours into my day and my head is just throbbing.  I have another cup of coffee in my hand and a bottle of water right next to me, but I can see exactly where this is going…I’ll be in bed as soon as my laundry is done.

I know red wine is a common migraine trigger so I thought I’d take today to share a few other common food related migraine triggers:
